How to Win

Based on what judges consistently value across AI film festivals:

Tell a story. The most common mistake is submitting a visual demo reel. Festivals want films - beginning, middle, end, emotional arc, point of view.

Finish the production. Sound design, color grading, titles, pacing - treat it like a real film. Raw AI output with music slapped on loses to a polished 60-second short every time.

Do something only AI can do. Entries that use AI as a cheaper alternative to live action lose to entries that create something impossible without AI. Impossible camera moves, surreal transformations, dream logic - lean into what the tools enable.

Character and performance. Judges notice when a character feels directed versus generated. Use reference systems (Wan 2.7, OmniHuman 1.5) to maintain consistency. Cast your AI characters like you'd cast actors.

Keep it short. Unless the competition requires length, shorter is almost always better. A tight 3-minute film beats a loose 10-minute one.

For studios on StudioList, festival selections are portfolio gold. A Cannes screening or Runway Grand Prix transforms your positioning from "AI video studio" to "award-winning AI video studio." The ROI on a festival submission is hard to beat.
